Vintage Sewing Display in my Craft Room

 Welcome to Debbie-Dabble Blog!!

I am so happy you decided to stop by!!

Today, I will be continuing my Series of posts sharing my cleaned and re-organized Craft Room.....

 But first, a personal Update......

Last week was a really busy week.......

In the beginning of the week, I packed away all of the Christmas decorations in the upstairs Sitting Room......

Changed the mantel and hearth area of my faux fire place over to Fairy Land.....

Cleaned and rearranged a few things in this corner.....

Set up my Tea Table after taking down the table top Tree that was here for Christmas.....

Took down and washed the drapes and curtains from the window and cleaned the window and light fixture and hung the drapes and lace curtain back up.....

Took everything out of the curio, cleaned the inside and put everything back in.....

Did some touch up spackling and painting where I moved things around on the walls......

And finished giving this room a really good cleaning and rearranging of things that I have wanted to do now for quite some time......

Meaning I got to check more things off my 2-3 Year To Do Post Retirement List!!!!

I will be sharing more of the Sitting Room in future posts....

Friday, our son, Joey, treated us to pizza from one of our favorite local pizza places....

So good!!

Speaking of food, I decided to use up some of the left over ham from Easter and I made this......

A jar of Alfredo sauce, chopped ham, cheddar cheese, mozzarella cheese, onion and garlic salt, parsley, Italian seasoning and toss in the spaghetti....

Joey, who eats dinner here daily, and I thoroughly enjoyed it!!

Joe, who I knew would not touch this with a ten foot pole, was left to go to Burger King as I surely had no intention of making something else just for him......

Saturday was going to be the nicest day of the weekend and even though it was a bit too warm for me ( in the high 70's), I worked in the shade of the front of our house.....

I managed to get the Front Porch set up for Summer, minus the planting of my annuals which is way too early to do so here in NEPA....

I also set up all the garden art in the flowers beds......

And while I was doing all this, this is what Joe was doing!!!

After I was finished, this is what my ankles looked like....

Yep! Isn't auto immune disease grand?????

Doesn't happen in the Fall and Winter but as soon as those temps. go above 70 degrees with a little bit of humidity, the swelling sets in......

My hands were also swollen by the time I was done.....

This is one of the reasons, along with Heat and Sun sensitivity, why I do not like Summer......

Joe went to a hockey game on Saturday evening so Joey treated his tired old Mother to Chinese!!!

Joey had a large Chicken Lo Mein without veggies ......

And I got a small version of the same......

So yummy!!

We got Chinese when Joe was not home because he will not touch Chinese food with a 10 foot pole either!!!

After eating, I decided to work on a little project for the Front Porch.....

Joe bought this sign in Big Lot's on clearance after Valentine's Day and even though he has strict instructions not to buy anything we do not need, he actually got this for FREE as he had a coupon for $5 off $15 and it was marked down to $4!!!

I was originally going to paint out the hearts but decided to keep them and just paint them the colors of my color scheme for the Front Porch which is red, orange and yellow.......

You can see by the porch light on, I finished it and was hanging it around 8 pm!!!!

Okay, so that was my weekend......

As I mentioned in past posts, I have been working in my Craft Room cleaning, reorganizing and rearranging ever since I went through all my Craft Supplies and passed some on to a few friends....

In my last post, I shared some projects I did in the Craft Room......

Click HERE if you missed that post.......

That included refinishing Joe's Grandmother's antique Singer Sewing Machine with a coat of polyurethane which really brightened it up some!!!

My neighbor Elly had a collection of vintage sewing items and was going to make a wreath out of them which I still may attempt to do because I still have some extra items that I did not use in this display.....

My Mother worked in the Garment Industry as a sewing machine operator from the age of 16 years old to 67 years old when she finally stopped working on the day that my Dad passed away.....

She taught me how to sew when I was very young and by the time I was able to take Home Ec in the 7th grade, I already knew how to sew and cut out patterns.....

My Mother would bring home thread, fabric and zippers that were being thrown out at work so all I had to do was buy the patterns which were a lot cheaper back then then what they are now ........

I was making most of my own clothes when I was in high school......

This display that I set up on top of this antique Singer Sewing Machine pays homage mostly to my Mother who made her living sewing and to Joe's grandmother.....

Spools of thread in a vintage glass cookie jar.....

Vintage paper bobbins in a vintage canning jar.......

A folding wooden yard stick and a package of Singer needles.....

A vintage package of needles and a vintage tomato pin cushion.....

Here is the history of the tomato pin cushion with a strawberry attached.....

I still have the larger one that my Mother bought for me when I started to sew and it has the elastic band to hold it on your wrist.....

I bought this children's Singer Sewing Machine at a church Flea Market for $5!!!

I have vintage thread spools from the dress factories and spools of crocheting thread around it.....

That is a black sock darner inside of that pink spool of thread......

I bought this sewing box at a yard sale.....

More vintage needle books, a needle threader, thimbles and scissors....

I draped an old measuring tape over the machine.....

The polyurethane really bought out the painted design on the machine....

More vintage needle packs displayed behind the machine.....

And in front of it......

More thread spools, another sock darner and a vintage canning jar filled with vintage buttons.....

Another glass canister filled with vintage buttons still on the card board cards that the came on

That is a vintage Avon perfume bottle in the shape of a thimble....

More vintage needle packs and those were my Mother's sewing scissors.....

A box of Singer Sewing Machine Attachments and a vintage metal bobbin.....

And an Owl thimble!!

I had this Sewing machine for several years before I could open it up and display it like this.....

I had it closed and used it as a table in my Den for a few years.....

But when my sons moved out and I could finally have my own Craft Room, I knew I wanted to display this magnificent Singer Sewing Machine in that room......

Look at how nice the polyurethane made the wood look......

It made the design on the drawers, which I do actually have filled with sewing supplies, pop!!

And what a great job it did on preserving the patina of the iron and brightening it up a bit.....

Of course, I had to decorate a bit around the base of the machine!!!!

A bird cage on the foot pedal......

2 sweet dolls......

I hope you enjoyed seeing how I refinished this antique Singer Sewing Machine and my vintage Sewing Display......

And what do I actually sew on now you may ask?????

A Singer Sewing Machine, of course!!!!!!

It sits on top of a kidney shaped vanity table that my Father built for my Mother.....

I recently ordered a few sewing things from Amazon using a gift card that my son gave me for my birthday that was in January.....

A pad for under the machine so that it does not jump across the table when in use.....

Do you see my tomato pin cushion in the right of the picture??????

I lost the strawberry to it though!!!

I also got a cutting board......

And a rotary cutter.....

I hope to go back to doing some sewing again.....

I made every single one of my son's Halloween costumes and I prided myself in that they never wore a store bought one.....

I will be sharing more of my Craft Room and in my next post, I will be sharing the Tree that I keep up year round in this room......

It is all decked out for Summer......

So I hope you will stop by to visit again soon!!

Stay safe, healthy and most of all, HAPPY!!

  2. Hello my friend! Stopped by this morning to snoop through your craft room and it looks absolutely amazing. I love the vanity your Dad made. So wonderful to have such special pieces. I have been waiting to see what you would do with the Big Lots sign. Perfect!!! But I never doubted it would be. The front porch looks great and I'm excited to see it full of flowers. Have a beautiful week!

  4. Beautiful! Love all the vintage sewing items. What a wonderful tribute to your mother. My mom had one of those tomato pincushions (with no strawberry). I don't know whatever happened to it. :-(
    Thanks for sharing!

  5. I really enjoyed the tour of your sewing corner! Great vintage stuff! Today's people don't darn socks, they just throw them out and buy more; they wouldn't be able to ID a sock egg! I remember my mother needleweaving to repair the heels of my ex's wool socks; they were $4 a pair 35 years ago. $11 to $14/ pr now! I mend them, too! But I can't do the beautiful ljob she did!

  7. Oh my what a delightful visit to your craft room, Debbie and I must say there was a lot of drooling on my end looking at all of your vintage sewing goodies. Also you porch is so pretty . Love your cushions. I was planting some pots of flowers the other day and was thinking of you. I had purchased some Dollar Tree marigolds and thought that you said you planted some last year and they did well. I am looking forward to lots of blooms. I can not wait to see your garden in full bloom. Have a great rest of the week. Hugs.
