My Theme for the Year 2021

 I want to mention that since Blogger changed to a new format for posting, if you can click on each picture if you care to enlarge it...... 
 
About 2 weeks ago, I revealed what My Word of the Year is for this New Year, 2021..... 

 
It is GRATITUDE

I do also have a few Goals for this year but alas, that will be a post for the future.....

So what is the difference between a Word and a Theme?????

This is how I define them for me.....

A Word of the Year is a single word that encapsulates what you need more of and what you want to focus on.....

And for 2021, my Word of the Year will be GRATITUDE.....

GRATITUDE is what I need to have more of and what I need to focus on.....

 

 So what is a Theme????

The definition of Theme is : a subject of discourse, discussion, meditation, or composition

I, personally, am looking at a Theme to be a subject of discussion and meditation.....

So for this year, I choose MINDFULNESS as my Theme of the Year.....

 

 What is the definition of MINDFULNESS......

 

mindfulness

A mental state achieved by focusing one's awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one's feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations

 

 Mindfulness is a state of being when your body and mind are in the same place at the same time.

To me, I feel I need to be more MINDFUL of what I am doing and how long I am taking to do it.... 

It is almost 2 years since I stopped working and I still struggle with how I spend my Time.....


 "MINDFULNESS gives you Time".....

I find that I can get lost doing nonsense.....

Since I really do not have to be anywhere at any specific time, I tend to get distracted and go off course with what I want to do and what I actually get done......

 

 I have tried to work on my Time Management issues since I stopped working.....

 I find that by making a List of what I want to accomplish in a week and what I need to do every day keeps me on track......

Making lists helps me keep on track....

They keep me MINDFUL of how I am spending my Time......

 

 Also, I need to be more MINDFUL of my reactions in certain situations and be more MINDFUL of living in the present, not dwelling on the past and not thinking of the Future.....

I need to be more MINDFUL of the present day and making it the best day that I can.....


I think this is especially important to do during this Pandemic....

 What are some examples of mindfulness exercises?

There are many simple ways to practice mindfulness. Some examples include:

  • Pay attention. It's hard to slow down and notice things in a busy world. Try to take the time to experience your environment with all of your senses — touch, sound, sight, smell and taste. For example, when you eat a favorite food, take the time to smell, taste and truly enjoy it.
  • Live in the moment. Try to intentionally bring an open, accepting and discerning attention to everything you do. Find joy in simple pleasures.
  • Accept yourself. Treat yourself the way you would treat a good friend.
  • Focus on your breathing. When you have negative thoughts, try to sit down, take a deep breath and close your eyes. Focus on your breath as it moves in and out of your body. Sitting and breathing for even just a minute can help.

I think with everything that is going on in this world today, we all can be more MINDFUL......

  1. I haven't chosen a word or theme this year as this pandemic has made everything feel so negative. I think a list is such a great idea of keeping mindful and a track of things you are getting done. I am a great fan of a list.

  2. Gratitude is a great word for 2020. I think we all need to feel grateful for where we are and what we have during this pandemic and all the unrest. I hope as 2020 progresses we find more peace and love and togetherness and less sickness and we can get rid of this virus as the vaccines are rolling out. Have a great weekend. xoxo

  5. Debbie, as Muslims, we too believe that our Lord asks us to be patient and to be grateful for what we are blessed with. If we all hone these two qualities, we could easily find contentment in our lives.
