SHINING at Home, CATCHING UP at Home and INVIGORATED at Home!

Welcome to Debbie-Dabble Blog!!
I am so happy you decided to stop by!!

Yep!

This is going to be another one of those posts.......

I need to vent.......

But first, I want to Thank Bev over at Eclectic Red Barn for choosing my post Garden Sitting Room, as one of her features from last week's Over the Moon Linky Party!!
Thanks so much, Bev!!

Please stop by and link up to this great party!!

My Personal Notes....

I had a wonderful Mother's Day.....

How about you???

It was fantastic not to have to worry about sleeping before or after working night shift or even about having to even go to work!!!

We ordered pizza and chicken tenders for a nice dinner with my family.....

I do love Ocean State Job Lot and Joe took advantage of a Mother's Day deal buying a $100 Gift Card and getting a free $30 Crazy Deal gift card too!!
I will have no problem using this.....

I was gifted money and a Lottery Ticket that I won $30 on from my son Jim and DIL Danielle and gift cards from my son, Joey and Niece Renae and Great Nieces!!

Looks like I will be doing a bit of Shopping!!!

I want to wish our Great Niece Carly a very Happy 11th Birthday today!!

We are so Blessed to have this sweet little Live Wire in our lives!!!
 Happy Birthday, Carly!!

We were thrilled to be able to wish her Happy Birthday in person yesterday when we had a socially distanced visit with our niece Renae and our great nieces......

We delivered her Birthday card and a container of Joe's Whimpies that he made on the weekend......
And a rotisserie chicken from Sam's Club....

Along with a few other things....

That little excursion for me was oddly only the second time that I actually went anywhere in the car since mid March!!!

And it has nothing to do with this Health crisis......

You will see why later on in this post....

I finally have Easter put away in the Kitchen and Dining Room but I still have the Living Room Tree to strip down.......

I will be decorating for the Summer Patriotic Holidays in our Living Room this week and we will be putting in the air conditioners on the weekend......

We are predicted to have above average temps. for the last 2 weeks of May, meaning in the 80's.....

A few sneak peaks of the Dining Room devoid of any Holiday decorations......
I will be sharing more in a future post......

And now to one of my Pet Peeves.....

What really ticks me off is when I hear TV or Radio personalities doing their jobs, reporting on stories and using the wrong words............

And yes, even some Bloggers are doing the same thing......

For instance...........

"Since we have been in Quarantine"

and

"Since we have been in Isolation"

Let's set the record straight here.......

The majority of this Country has had "Stay at Home" orders imposed upon them.......

A vast majority are "Staying at Home"

This is as per the CDC website.....

STAY AT HOME

"A stay-at-home order means, stay home. Only go out for necessary items like food and medical care. Most retail stores and offices will be closed until the order is lifted. While essential businesses will be allowed to remain open like grocery stores, banks, hardware stores, post offices, essential transportation, senior care facilities, farming operations and media outlets, everyone else should stay home as much as possible. Restaurants offering curbside or delivery options also remain open. You can still go outside under a stay-at-home order – do yard work, go on a hike, but be responsible and practice social distancing."

Almost ALL of us are "Staying Home"!!!!

None of us need to be in Quarantine unless we have been exposed to someone who has tested positive.....

This is as per the CDC website.....

 SELF QUARANTINE

"For those who may have been exposed to or are at risk of COVID-19, self-quarantining for 14 days is the recommendation. This might include those who have recently traveled, have been in contact with a person they now know is infected, or those who were perhaps initially a bit resistant to the idea of social distancing. Self-quarantining means staying at home and remaining at least six feet away from others in your household. If you may have been exposed to COVID-19, don’t share any items with others. Have your own set of towels, utensils, and a separate area in your house if possible. A no-visitors policy and frequent handwashing are also required. After two weeks, if you don’t have symptoms, it’s possible to return to your normal routine — which may be simply a return to social distancing."

And none of us are in ISOLATION unless we have actually tested positive or are exhibiting symptoms.....

This is as per the CDC website.....

 SELF ISOLATION

"Isolation serves the same purpose as a quarantine, but it’s reserved for people who are already sick and designed to keep infected people away from those who aren’t infected. Isolation is appropriate for those who have tested positive for COVID-19, or who have symptoms but haven’t yet been tested. Self-isolation means staying indoors and eliminating all contact with others, using a separate bedroom or bathroom if possible, and not leaving your home except to get medical care (in which case, you should call ahead first). The decision between at-home isolation and hospital care is made on a case-by-case by medical professionals. For those who are admitted to a hospital, special personal protective equipment will be used by medical personnel."

Okay , now that we got the use for the proper terminology straight.......

PLEASE use it the right way!!!

There is enough fear and frustration and anxiety out there without people improperly using these terms.......

So unless you have been exposed, tested positive or have symptoms, you are simply "STAYING AT HOME"

You are NOT in Isolation and you are NOT in Quarantine!!!!

Now that I got that of my chest.......

ONE MORE THING!!!!!!

I really hate it when people say that they are "STUCK" at Home!!!

Or that they are "COOPED UP at Home"

And again, that they are " ISOLATED at Home"

Again, this is a matter of one's perception of their situation......

I choose to think that I am NOT "STUCK" at Home.....

But rather that I am "SHINING at Home"......

Now what exactly do I mean by that......

The definiton of SHINE:

to give out a bright light

to give forth or glow with light;  to be bright ; glisten; sparkle.to appear brightly or strongly

Now isn't that a much better way to look at it??????

I am "SHINING BRIGHT" at home.....

I am doing things at home that I love to do.......

Like decorating, gardening, crafting, blogging, cooking for my family and enjoying LIFE!!!!

I also choose to believe that I am not "COOPED UP at Home"...

But rather that I am "CATCHING UP at HOME".....

Now what do I mean by "Catching Up".....

The definition of  CATCH UP.....

do work or other tasks that one should have done earlier.

 Boy is that ever right!!

I am "CATCHING UP" on about 2-3 years worth of work that I want to do around the house since I retired......

And I am sure that even after this is all over, I will still be "CATCHING UP" on those things!!!!!

What do I hope to "CATCH UP" on......

Painting, organizing, rearranging, crafting, etc........

I have a Room by Room List of things I want to do in each room and also outside!!!!

Plus a Crafting List of things I want to make!!!

I am not "COOPED UP"......

 I am "CATCHING UP"!!!!

And now for the last one.......

"ISOLATED" at home.......

I am far from being "ISOLATED" at Home.....

But rather, I am "INVIGORATED" at Home!!!!

What does INVIGORATED mean????

 give strength to.

to give life and energy to

ABSOLUTELY!!!!

I LOVE being Home!!!

After working for 42 years, I now finally get the chance to stay at home and "PLAY"!!!

I feel as if I have been given my life back!!!

Yes, I am "SHELTERING" at Home........

 And staying "SAFE" at Home

But remember....

My Home is my Sanctuary.........

And I just love this definition of Sanctuary!!!!

Don't you??????

I used to say that after a particularly trying night at work, I would walk in my front door and want to drop to my knees, thanking God that I was HOME!!!

I have ALWAYS felt SAFE at Home...in my Sanctuary...

So much so that since I stopped working 15 months ago, I seldom left my Sanctuary!!

And like I mentioned before, it has nothing to do with what is going on now.....

I just LOVE being at Home!!!

So will you continue to use words like.....

QUARANTINE......

 ISOLATION.......

STUCK at Home.....

Or COOPED UP at Home......

Or will you choose to "SHINE" at Home.....

"CATCH UP" at Home......

And be "INVIGORATED" at HOME......

And will you be SAFE in Your SHELTER?????

Or will you be SAFE in Your SANCTUARY?????

Like I said......

All a matter of one's Perception!!

And how changing a few words in your vocabulary can change one's attitude about things and one's view of Life!!

What will you choose??????

I hope you will stop by to visit again soon!!

Thanks to those who took the time out of their busy day to spend a little bit of time with me!!

  1. Hi Debbie...I am happy you are retired and enjoying staying at home and doing things you love to do the most. That is wonderful news. Actually, I like being home, too, but I also like zipping out, shopping, doing my own grocery shopping, etc......all of which are not feasible during the coronavirus era. As much as I love staying at home and doing what I want, I still think of all the poor souls who have died from the virus, are dying now, and all those taking care of them. This is a most difficult time in our country's history. When I read now that KIDS are getting sick, too, it saddens my heart. Please, stay safe and keep healthy! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog, too. Always love when you visit, Debbie. Sincerely, Susan

  2. I'm not couped up at home either; neither am I stuck. I am enjoying my home.

  3. Yes, I too am enjoying my home...
But, as much as I am enjoying my home (I am retired) I still think of all those worldwide who have died from the virus, those that are still dying, and all those taking care of them.

    All the best Jan

  4. Hi Deb. I do enjoy being home for whatever reason. The only rule that I am adamant about is wearing masks. I find it very disrespectful to not when a person is out and about. In order to protect all of us, how hard could it be to cover your face in exchange for going out? As for me though, I intend to enjoy my home for a long time to come because I think that is the only place safe for me right now..Stay well my friend..xxoJudy

  5. It's all about perspective, I agree 100%. And Ocean State is my new favorite store. I discovered the one and only location in my area last summer and it's become my go to place. It's actually the only place I've had a craving to visit! Lucky you!! Stay well!

  6. Hi Debbie - I definitely agree that it's about choosing your attitude. All the way through this I've chosen to look for the positives, but at the same time it hasn't had a big impact on me. I'm not an extravert who is slowly going insane not connecting with friends, I'm not sick and worried about my health, I haven't lost my job, my family isn't affected - so it's easier to choose the good stuff. I shared a wonderful quote on being kind to each other as we handle the situation differently and thought you'd enjoy it. Here's the link: https://www.pinterest.com.au/pin/360147301455561484/

  8. Hi Debbie! I'll have to go back and check my posts because I know I was writing "staying at home" but probably dropped off to quarantine once in a while... EEk! (insert emoji with eyes looking upward) I actually went in and asked for an antibody test yesterday since I was sooo sick in January/February with pneumonia but different feeling than the three previous times I've had it. My husband works with quite a few Chinese and South Korean coworkers (The president of the division was over right before Christmas at the annual Christmas dinner and he came directly from S. Korea. Company also does manufacture some product in China.) and may have been exposes, then myself. Our mutual friend who we know from IOOF was ill and feverish at our Jan. 2nd meeting works at a local college (as a security guard since retiring from sheriff work) and that college has a high Chinese national student clientele. So, it's possible we already had the nasty virus, and I was sick for a month... We shall see. :)

Thanks for the corrections and I'm glad you were able to celebrate with family. <3 If all goes well with the test, we plan to see our little grandson in about 10 days or so.

    Hugs,
    Barb :)

  9. It is refreshing to read such a positive blog on the current situation due to covid 19. We are extremely blessed this is all that is being asked of us in order to fight the war against this virus. Our grandfathers and fathers had to leave their businesses, employment, and loved ones behind in order to go into battle for their countries. Stay safe and keep smiling.

  10. Great perspective. I think this is our new way of life for a while. Texas is open but Bill and I aren't back to normal by any means. I am a homebody but even this was getting a little much. Ours was called Sheltering In Place but I was under self quarantine for the first couple of weeks because I got sick with something. Love this post.

  11. Debbie, I love this post!! You're absolutely right--so many of us have been using the wrong words to describe the events of this winter and spring. Thank you for your words of correction and the reminder to change our attitudes! :)

And thanks for joining the Grace at Home party at Imparting Grace. I'm featuring you this week!
