Buried By The Blizzard!!

Welcome to NEPA and the Blizzard of 2017!!!!
Pretty much the predictions were right for our area!!!!
Over 20 inches of snow for the Wilkes Barre/ Scranton area of Penna.!!!

Let me start from the beginning......

I made it to work for 11pm on March 13th before the snow started and fully prepared to stay for a day......maybe 2 because Hospitals do not close......

Luckily, there was about 7-8 inches of snow by morning and all of our day shift made it in to work around 6am and I was able to leave about 7:30am.

It was the first time I drove Joe's SUV in snow but I plowed through everything and made it home!!

No one was on the roads except for the plow trucks but the snow was blowing so much that I could not see where the road was........Luckily I live only about 15 minute drive away from where I work.....

When I got home, Joe was trying to shovel........

This is what the front of our house looks like about 8:15 am on Tuesday morning, March 14th.......
Notice that you can still see the top of my park bench.......
You can see where he tried to clear a path and my foot prints from when I came home.......
This is what out back yard looked like at 8:15 am......
You can still see the wrought iron chairs on each side of the arbor.....
This is the snow piling up on the cover over my potting bench......
I decided to put out a yard stick to measure the snow on the sidewalk which had been shoveled and was clear of the snow that we had last Friday......
Here I am on my lovely gray scrubs that all RN's have to wear where I work, putting the yard stick in place.....
We were at about 13 inches at this time.......
I then went to bed to get a bit of sleep and when I got up around 2 pm, this is how the back yard now looked........
Definitely, a lot more snow!!!!
Yes, that is just the tops of the wrought iron chairs on each side of the arbor!!!
My yard stick is disappearing!!
Yep!! Almost 21 inches!!!
You can see how much snow there is on my neighbor's patio roof......
Let's take a look out front........
My park bench is under there some where....

My mailbox is almost covered.....
Joe shoveled a pathway....

I was worried about him shoveling so much because he has already sustained 2 compression fractures in his back in the past since he suffers from severe osteoporosis.....
I went upstairs and took a few photos......

Look at my neighbor's cars!!!
Looking at the road and the back of Lowes.......
Looking down at the front yard.......
Joe shoveled some snow away from the back on our house......
Impressive........
The front of the house after Joe shoveled the sidewalks......
 My park bench buried!!!
My neighbor's front porch not touched......
And I love these photos taken in the evening.........

My little lamp post in the back yard, almost buried!!!
This is what it looked like after a previous snowfall in the season............
And now.......
Love how the snow is sparking!!!
The solar lights on the arbor and the trellis are on because Joe attached the panel to the fence or it would have been buried......
This Blizzard topped the Blizzard of 1993 whose 24th Anniversary was March 13!!

I don't think we will be seeing any signs of Spring for quite some time here!!

Here are some photos of my great nieces and nephew enjoying the snow!!!

Madalyn in her back yard......
Her big brother, Will, going out sleigh riding with a bunch of friends!!!
This was me about 50 years ago!!!  I loved to go sleigh riding!!!

Cortney, Caitlin and Carly having a blast with their dogs!!
Oh!!!!!  To be a kid again!!!

And now the clean up begins.........
 I will keep you posted........

I hope you will come by and visit  again!!

And thanks to those who took the time out of their busy day to spend a little bit of time with me!!

If you do not have a blog, PLEASE  give me some way to reply to your comment, maybe by including your email in your comment.  If I can not find a way to reach you, I will reply on the post where you commented so please check back......

Hugs,
Debbie

  1. Wowee, Debbie!!! You really got buried. We were expecting up to a foot, and we got @ 2 inches. . .BUT! The wind was quite brutal off the Lake (Erie), 40 - 50 MPH. Your nieces and nephews are really cute; what fun to have a snow day and go sledding! Hope you and Joe stay warm and SAFE!

  5. Ugh. So much snow. We lucked out in South Jersey, getting only about 4 inches of snow and sleet. I don't know about you, but I'm ready for winter to be over.

    Stay safe.

  6. Debbie, glad you made it home safely. As a Texan, I can't begin to imagine living with all that snow. Stay safe, warm, and cozy in your home.

  10. Debbie, That is a lot of snow! Here in Arizona it is in the 90's - we have our air conditioner on and I'm wearing a summer dress. Hard to believe the difference in weather. Stay warm and take care.

  13. Wow I can't believe how much snow that is! I grew up in that area of PA but now live in southeast Texas. It's been much warmer here this week!

  14. Oh my goodness that is just awful, especially this time of year. I am glad thought that you were able to get off of work and make it home safely and not have to stay at the hospital.

  15. Debbie, visiting from "Create with Joy". This is an impressive snow fall! It was terribly cold and chilly last week with a few snow flurries but no accumulation. I'm glad it's now spring, so maybe the weather will begin warming up for good but we know how tricky the weather can be this time of year. Thanks for sharing and have a good week!

I invite you to visit Curious as a Cathy for a little mewsic and learn about my AprilA2Z challenge theme reveal!

  18. Oh my Debbie, how much snow!! I've not seen this much snow for 35 years!! We only had a little dusting this year. I am not showing my daughter this or she will want to move house. She would have loved some snow this Winter. Thanks for sharing at Creative Mondays

  19. Debbie, I'm amazed that you made it home, but so happy to hear that you did. Amazing snow fall. Is that a record for your area? My kids would be overjoyed to get that much snow! The biggest snowfall in my memory for Missouri was in '82 and that was about 14 inches and that is a very rare occurrence. Thanks for sharing your pictures at Snickerdoodle. I shared your facebook photos with my son and he was pretty jealous. No good snow in my area this year. Take care! Hope spring in under all that snow!

  22. it was pretty scary not being able to get out of our house-- had to take the glass out of the door to shovel. we got 36+ inches and at one point our local Utica, NY news said we got 7" in an hour. nearby Hartwick got 48". Lucky them!

    1. Joan,
I could not get in touch with you any other way but here so I am responding here. What an amazing amount of snow you got. 22 inches was enough for us, breaking all records. I can only imagine what 36 and 48 inches of snow would be like!!! It was 24 years since we saw that much snow and I hope it will be another 24 years before we see it again...
Thanks so much for stopping by!!
      Hugs,
      Debbie
