The Remodel, Part 5, Dining Room Reveal

Welcome to The Final Part of The Remodel!!
Today, I will be sharing my Dining Room with you.......
We painted the Dining Room and had Pergo Max Floors installed.
I ordered rugs from J.C.Penney's and they finally came in......
I could have picked pink ones but I think it would have been too much pink in my Victorian Style Dining Room....
These rugs were a great buy as they are wool rugs.

They were $100 each but on sale for $49.00 each. I used a discount for $15.00 and had them delivered to the store , which is right down the road from me, for free a Shipping Rate so the 2 rugs only cost $90.28,  cheaper than one at regular price!
The colors are very vibrant.....
No, I did not want a runner here......
 Why you ask???????
 This is the reason.......

Our Kitchen is very small so we eat in the Dining Room and this is where Joe sits.

I had a runner here once and because he is not too careful when pulling out his chair and he ruined it so 2 rugs, leaving a space for his chair to be pulled out, is my solution.

I did not want an area rug under the table because I was tired of shampooing the rug under the table......
My Dining Room is my "most" Victorian looking room, I think!!
Yes, I painted my ceilings Edwardian Rose to match the upper wall color.....
I live in a townhouse and have few windows. Actually only 7 windows in the entire house.

Stop Gasping now!!

This room is dark no matter what I do to it and what color I paint it.
It has been white, light green, pale pink and I still needed to have lights on in this room. There is no escaping it.....

I was a huge fan of the Christopher Lowell Show which was on several years ago and Christopher once said that if you have a room without windows and need to use lighting whenever you are in that room, then make that room into a Jewel Box and use deep rich jewel tone colors on the walls. That was when I painted the room these colors and I repainted it with the same colors.  The reason why I painted the ceiling was because Victorians considered the ceiling a 5th Wall and painted and wall papered their ceilings.
I am glad that I did because I feel it adds a richness to the room.....
I have a lot of Tea Cups in this room, which you will see through out this post....
All of my tea cups are from yard sales, thrift shops and flea markets....
I have old windows, which were window inserts for old doors , hung as dividers between the LR and the DR.
I think the Wood Floors really give an old fashioned look to this room as well as the rest of the house.....
When I moved everything back into the rooms downstairs,  I didn't put everything out and tried to only put out things that were not to be packed up when I decorate for Christmas.....
I didn't put all of my Moss Rose Collection back into the Hutch and decided to display some pieces on this stand which I bought many years ago at a Church Flea Market for $3.00!!

The Dining Room furniture was Joe's Grandmother's and Joe's Uncle refinished it in a fruitwood stain as a wedding present for us.  It was originally done in what was called a "blonde" finish.

He did put the mirror inserts in the doors and they now reflect the area rugs.....
On top of the Hutch.....
I had a mirror here and replaced it with this picture that I originally had elsewhere in the DR.
I made that picture myself. I bought the frame and used Thomas Kinkaid 4 Season Post Cards.....

Most of my Moss Rose Collection went back into the Hutch.....
All these pieces came from Yard Sales, Thrift Shops and Estate Sales over many years.....
You can see that I placed mini LED battery operated lights in the Hutch........

Some pictures were taken before I did that though......

I changed the shades on the Chandy for the Winter.....
Again, I think the colored ceiling make everything look richer.....
Here are the window dividers that I mentioned....
Lace curtains are hung on the Living Room Side......

   Looking into the Living Room......
A Collection of Guardian Angel Plates.....

I will be putting the 7 foot Slim Tree here which will be decorated for Christmas and eventually Valentine's Day..
This is an antique Smoking table that my neighbor threw in our garbage dumpster!!
There is a drawer on the right side that pulls out for an ash tray to be placed .....

The pink Tulip lamp was originally in the Powder Room but with the installation of the new medicine cabinet. I don't have a shelf  to put it on or even a receptacle to plug it in to!!!
I placed a silver tray on the bottom of the table to create another shelf.....
I love this old Home Interiors picture, titled "May I Play?"
After I painted, I re-arranged some of my wall art a bit....
  Looking toward the Kitchen.....
   More Tea Cups.......
These are the same pattern but the cups are shaped differently.....
My Fake window...... Curtains and draped hug where the pass through is to the Kitchen......

This is another Home Interiors piece .
The dishes that are displayed on this shelf, I bought at flea markets.  The pattern on the dishes is the same pattern that Joe's Grandmother had but his uncle took them when she passed away.  We inherited the Dining Room furniture.

And Joe's Grandmother's name was ROSE!!!!!
I LOVE the gold on some of the plates!!

My fake window again with drapery bought at a Flea Market!!

The floral spray was bought at Salvation Army for $5.00 !!!
This cabinet was made for me by my Dad to match the DR furniture. It was originally used for liquor but since we do not drink anymore, I store CD's in it now.

I wanted to get rid of the big stereo that is 35 years old but my oldest son said I would be nuts to do so because he said it was a top of the line piece then and they do not make them that way anymore.  If I do decide to get rid of it some day, he feels I would still get a good piece of change for it.......

So it will stay for now.....
More tea cups above the door way into the Kitchen......

So that is the Dining Room as it looks now......

Years ago , when my Mother was still alive and we installed the chair rails and moldings through out the downstairs, she was quite upset with me.  She yelled at me that I " was trying to make this house look old"!

I told her that she was exactly right to her dismay.

My Mother liked everything brand new and threw out old things. She did not see them as antiques or as things that should be saved for that matter.

We did not share the same styles or even opinions and all I could think of when they were installing my beautiful new wood laminate floors is that my Mother must be rolling in her grave because now the house really has that old fashioned look that she hated so!!

She covered up all the beautiful hardwood floors that my Dad installed when he built their house, with wall to wall carpeting. She hated the wood floors......

Chuckle........Chuckle.......
